SWATI
Swati, who now runs an independent centre, in Aali Village, completed her course in stitching and beauty culture from PRERANA in the year 2004. Since then she has been running this independent centre in the Aali Village, coaching girls from her village and nearby localities in stitching and beauty culture.
She is barely 22 years old and coaches a batch of girls at her home, where she has 15 students. She takes another batch at the centre, where she trains 12 girls, and in all earns around Rs. 3,500 per month from these 2 batches.
Its because of this independence, that she could manage to withstand the extreme pressure of getting married at an early age, from her family and convince them to let her continue running the centre.
Swati credits her present financial independence and security to PRERANA, and wishes that other girls in the community come forward and join the program. Recently, she appeared for the ‘Jan Shikshan Sansthan Prayas’ Evaluation and as a facilitator came out with flying colours.
She observes a change and a vast improvement in the attitude and capabilities, in the girls, she trains. She also feels that ‘Life Skills Education’ that is imparted in these classes is a very novel way of blending vocational training with this vital knowledge and contributes majorly to the change in girls, post training. She recollects that the same happened to her, when she passed out.
Swati is just one of the success stories that motivate PRERANA to keep serving these communities and make girls independent and secure in every possible manner. Girls are motivated to apply their vocational skills in the right direction after they complete the training, so that they can earn respect and independence in life.
SUDHA and JYOTI
Sudha and Jyoti are the best examples to narrate the benefits and efficacy of Leadership Programme Using Sports that was initiated by PRERANA last year. These 17 year old girls from Jaitpur were identified as Goal Champions in Netball from the Aali Team. And now these two would be coaching a new batch in a site in Jaitpur.
Its been nearly 1.5 years since these girls have been playing Netball and have emerged not only as good players but also as leaders who can very well coach a team of 24 girls now. They say that physical exercise that formed a part of their training enhanced their self esteem and also gave them the confidence to face such a challenge.
Excited about the onus that is on them, these girls are full of spirit and are enjoying the new role assigned to them. They feel it gives their day a direction and find it much better than sitting idle at home.
With a new batch of 24 girls starting with their training in Jaitpur, PRERANA wishes to witness a lot more success stories and give them the experience of assuming roles that provide a larger meaning and direction to their lives.
