PRERANA implemented the “Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) funded project titled ‘Yojana to Increase Access to Reproductive Health Services’ (YARS II) in 2 blocks of Lucknow- Chinhat and Gosaiganj district of Uttar Pradesh.
The objective of the project was to increase utilisation of quality, client-centered Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services by adolescents aged 10 to 19 years. To achieve the same, the adolescents were trained as Peer Educators to generate awareness on SRH among their friends and peers.
A group of over 600 married and unmarried adolescents were trained in SRH and Income Generation (IG) activities to increase their knowledge and self esteem.
The project had a strong component of sensitizing stakeholders in an effort to make them advocate for the project to influence policy and community support for ASRH&R.
As aimed the project created a cadre of Peer Educators in both the blocks at the end of the project cycle, who now act as a resource within the community to address issues related to Sexual and Reproductive Health of the adolescents.
