PAHEL Training Manual

In Bihar, CEDPA is piloting a community based Women’s Leadership Program, in 2 blocks in Patna district.

The objective of the program is to build the capacity of elected Women Panchayat Representatives at the district, block and village level, to become change agents in improving the management of Sexual and Reproductive Health Programs for young women and young couples in their communities.

The project will work in collaboration with ‘Department of Panchayati Raj’ and the ‘National Commission for Women’ (NCW) in Bihar.

PRERANA has been asked to assist CEDPA in developing a Training Manual to be used by Master Trainers (selected from the Department of Panchayati Raj, NCW and local NGOs), when they train the Women Panchayat members.The Manual is currently being developed both in English and Hindi, through a participative method.

Youthreach Counseling Program

In 2006, PRERANA in partnership with Youthreach undertook a Process Assessment Study of a pilot programme focusing on training and employability which Youthreach had been implementing in collaboration with its various partners, to study its effectiveness, and to determine ways to address the challenges faced for future such programming interventions.

Based on the recommendations provided by PRERANA, the project was then granted a second phase in which the focus was on institutionalisation of some of the recommendations for long term sustainability. PRERANA was once again entrusted the responsibility of assessing and evaluating the second phase of the project as well.

The data collection for this phase is almost complete and the same is in the process of being analysed.

JCB, Ballabhgarh

Under the CSR initiatives of JCB in village Ladiapur, PRERANA provided a 5 days Refresher Training to the JCB Health Workers and a one day training to Women/Girls etc. in March 2008.

The issues on which training was conducted included:

  • Health and Sanitation
  • Personal Hygiene
  • Symptoms and Preventive measures for General Diseases
  • Sexual and Reproductive Health
  • Care of Adolescent Girl, Safe Motherhood
  • First Aid and Home Remedies, etc.

Mock/Practice sessions were also used to enable better understanding and develop skills for effective facilitation of the issues on hand.

Training for MOSERBAER FOUNDATION’s Health Workers and Volunteers

PRERANA was invited by the Moser Baer Foundation, New Delhi to train its community volunteers and field based functionaries on Community Mobilization, Life Skills and Reproductive Health.

Under this three phased training PRERANA has successfully completed two phases of training on Community Mobilisation and Reproductive Health.

Evaluation of English Conversation Program

PRERANA evaluated a pilot project taken up by Youthreach with its seven partner NGOs which aimed at addressing the enhancement and development of conversational and writing skills of children and youth from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Data collection was done through Focused Group and Individual, Interview Guides for teachers, students, NGO heads, as well as observation of sessions which were taken by an external agency specifically identified by Youthreach for this task.

Extension Lectures with Department of Adult and Continuing Education and Extension

Continuing with this programme, this year PRERANA helped organise 52 extension sessions with adolescent girls and women on issues of seasonal ailment, reproductive health, nutrition, domestic violence etc. in collaboration with Deptt. Of Adult and Continuing Education and Extension, JMI.

Training of NFI Partners

In May, 2008, PRERANA facilitated a 5-day training on Life Skills and Reproductive Health for NFI and itspartners –- CCF, in Deoghar in Bihar, for its various field based functionaries.
