LEADERSHIP AWARD PROGRAMME USING SPORTS

PRERANA in collaboration with NAZ Foundation started a project titled GOAL in the year 2007. This project innovatively expanded the Life Skills program for adolescents to include ‘sports’ as a vehicle for social inclusion and Women’s Empowerment and Leadership.

A Netball team was formed in village Aali in 2007, when the program started. The space for practising Netball was given by community and a trained coach was selected for training the girls.

Leadership through Sports Award Scheme is curriculum based and has 3 components:

  1. Professionally Coached Netball Session
  2. A modular leadership course focusing on Communication, healthy living and Entrepreneurship
  3. Action Based Learning

Recent Developments

A batch of 28 girls from Aali, who had been learning Netball, for one full year, have completed the training and a new batch of 24 girls has been identified in Jaitpur for Net Ball Coaching.

The previous batch which successfully completed the training, also witnessed girls being selected in the State Level Team, and 2-3 girls being identified as prospective coaches. These girls would be further trained as professional coaches to train  the next batch of girls at  Jaitpur.
