TDF Interventions and Impact on Bamboo Basket seller’s (Landless Families)

Introduction

PRERANA was implementing Tribal Development Project (TDF) at Giddaluru Mandal of Prakasam District, AP since 2012. This project was planned for 500 Acres to benefit the 500 Tribal farmers. TDF is a project of developing and utilizing natural and human resources, technologies, infrastructure facilities, institutions and organizations and governmental policies and programs to encourage and speed up improve the quality of tribal life towards self-sustenance. Apart with this, 50 Landless families were also targeted as project Interventions.

As part of the project interventions PRERANA Approached the Landless families in the Project area who were completely depend on Making and selling Bamboo Baskets to a middle Man within in the Community. Bamboo was the most available raw material for the proposed tribal village. There was a very good demand for bamboo handicrafts in the market, It was needed a skill training. We were proposed this skill development training for the 50 families (Both wife and husband).It can be developed as work cum training center.

Impact ( Outcome)

The result of the training, the trained persons (by using the waste materials and reaming time of their regular work ) creating and preparing the bamboo crafts and one family collecting the material and selling in and around the Nandyal ( near Town to the Project ) They were having demand for the Crafts, They were getting the profit of Rs.50/- to Rs.100/- on one Article. They prepare all the demanded articles in their lease time and collect all together and sell them in near by town. Now they were using the leftover material from basket making also utilizing for crafts. Even though it was not a day wise activity, but on an average of Rs.3000 to Rs.6000/- of extra Income apart with their regular Income.

PRERANA approached the DDM ,and explained the same and with the efforts of DDM, Prakasam ,NABARD has sanctioned MEDP on Bamboo crafts for SHG women and MEDP training was Organized for the women for 14 days, and With the Livelihood Training Support from TDF project Man and Youth also trained for 60 days with two spells. This Training was started on 03-12-2014 A total of 30 SHG women and 40 Man and youth were trained on Making of Bamboo crafts.

The trainees were exposed to Modal demo of different bamboo crafts. In addition, they were learned how to select of suitable Bamboo and how to groom the Bamboo (Cutting, preparing for expected modals) and practicing by participants. They were learned Ice cream sticks, ash try Making, bamboo tray, table pen stand, fruit basket and Making, Wall hangings, Photo frames, cloth basket Making of bamboo flower s , stand for flowers, show case crafts, Bamboo handbags and Bamboo Files etc. All the trainees were shown interest and learned the craft.
